Process pieces

I get my inspiration from other artists and nature. I try to draw expressively as if I were free from the rest of the world. I play with different 3-D structures in my paintings and create shadow forms from that. I try and experiment with taking away from my painting rather than adding to it by scratching out organic lines and shapes. Any suggestions with how to make my pieces finished?

  1. I really like the variety of styles she used. It shows that she is adaptable and can have differences between her pieces of work.

  2. I like your idea investigating the "scratching out or removing the surface method" to create a painting. Maybe you can extend your investigation and create a series of reductive charcoal drawings and/or scratchboard. The 3rd and 4th mixed media pieces seem to work together. I think you might want to consider adding some kind of detail to the thickly textured gessoed piece (drawing, photo, etc) to make it come together as a series. The colorful Georgia O'Keefe inspired piece might need some dark and mid-dark tones with gradual blends at the top half of the painting to create more subtle depth.

  3. The third painting reminds me of a hidden photo in house shingles.
    What an amazing hidden treasure...

  4. Keep up the thoughtful, creative process. Your commitment and dedication in this class reflects the quality work that your are producing. I need to update your colored painting for the blog.

Think about further developing your artist statement . .

  5. I would keep on pushing your idea development of using modeling paste by "removing the surface" to create a painting. This series of work has alot of potential. Think about finding internal environmental landscapes as a starting point.
