I think the music is explicit but i like the visuals of the video.
I like how in this video they focus on all the neon lights and huge light up signs. I like how he whole video is based on lights and they even use fireworks to show more ways of light. I also think it is cool how they are wearing shinny suits that reflect the light and make everything flash more.

Pen Art
This artist used only a pen to draw a picture of a person. I thought this was really cool because not many people are able to use pens in this way. The detail is really intricate and I have never seen someone do this. It would probably be much more challenging than a using a pencil, but I think it is really cool.

Water Art
I thought it was really cool how this artist was able to manipulate his paint with the water. Last year, I tried creating art from oil/paint by dropping the mixture in the water and forming shapes out of it. I found this really challenging at it took me a while to get it how I wanted it. It was really challenging for me, and the fact that this artist is able to paint something in the water really impressed me. It is a really unique form of art and I thought it was cool because of this.

Isabella's PEM reflection
Although I was not able to attend the field trip, looking through the website, I was able to find piece that have inspired me. I want to explore more with nature. In the “Sizing It Up”, a few pieces stood out to me. I want to play more with shape and the size in my work.
I like these two pictures. They are simple yet have an impact. In the whale picture, I like the size and how the background allows for the whale to stand out even more. For the surfers, how the wave is closing in and the calmness of the surfers.

For my next project, I will work on sizing and making sure I don’t over think my work and allow myself to just go for it.

Based on PEM exhibitions, what new materials and techniques would you like to explore?
I think I would really enjoy trying to work with sculpture, as in the past I have only really worked with 2d surfaces and medium. I think it would be a great way to grow and put my vision into a more interactive form, exact type of medium I am unsure.
What steps will you take in creating a series of new work? What artists or themes will you like to explore. Please site themes and artist for the exhibitions.
I tend to drift towards just learning and figuring things out as I go, especially with artwork, I never quite know exactly how something is going to come out until I do it and that's something that's exciting for me. I would liek to explore photography as a medium more as its so interesting to be able to make art of the things that we are surrounded by and the things that occur naturally and manipulating them in some way. (It was difficult to find specific information on the artists but here are some specific photos I found interesting)

I really like this video because its different, and something I’ve never seen done before. It is a mixture of a few kinds of art, and it is both interactive and fascinating to look at. While it is very complex and intricate, it is almost very simple because it only has 1 material.

Based on the PEM exhibit, I would
like to further explore with using unrealistic sizes and ratios to objects and
things along those lines. In the “Sizing it up: Scale in Nature and Art”
category of the exhibit, I found the art to be very engaging and interesting
because it was so abnormal and abstract.
An artist and theme that has always
stuck out to me was Frida Kahlo. I have known about her and her artwork since I
was young and traveled around Mexico and have always been fascinated with the
way she painted. Her paintings are all very deep and intensely meaningful. They
are extremely abstract and unusual but once you understand the emotion she was
trying to express, it all makes perfect sense. They are often sad and have a
lot of pain in them, which also draws me in and makes me want to know more
about Frida as a person as well as an artist. Her theme is her and her emotions
in a portrait. For me, this would be very cool to experiment with but also very
challenging.
This video inspires me because it
talks about her pain, and how it made her stronger and rise above her
difficulties in life. This makes me think she is a very inspirational artist.
What draws me in about her portraits are that her face is usually consistent
and similar but what’s surrounding her is always the interesting part. What is
happening to her or what she’s doing is what expresses her emotion.
I like this drawing because it has a very whimsical feel to
it. It reminds me of when I was a kid and had a huge imagination. I like how
the flowers are ginormous because it could possibly have an underlying concept
of the pollution in our planet right now and how we desperately need to take
care of our earth and plants. The flowers are big to show the importance of
this issue. It appeals to children most likely which is exactly who needs to be
targeted so the next generation will be saved. I like how there are multiple
kinds of flowers for diversity and how they are crammed in a room representing
the small world.
PEM Inspiration
Based on the PEM exhibitions, I've been exploring scale more sculptural approaches to my art, inspired specifically by the "Sizing It Up: Scale in Nature and Art" exhibit. I often feel confined by the canvas I work on, so in order to move beyond this, I have been experimenting with expanding the piece in the way I feel it needs, whether it be through an extension of theme to later pieces or physically adding more material to the piece to create a larger space for myself to work with.
In creating a series of new work, I've settled on working sculpturally with a series of mirrors, focusing on conveying a sense of textures found in nature presented in unnatural colors, as is found in John Newsom's piece Honey Hunter. With this series of mirrors, I will also include a large canvas with an interpretive self portrait, in order to play on the theme of self-reflection and how a self portrait can travel outside a lifelike depiction of one's face.
These pieces inspire me because they incorporate mixed media, present the sculptural technique and contemporary self portrait style I'm experimenting with, and they present a depth created in the usage of unexpected color and texture combinations.

PEM Reflection
I really liked the idea of using old and every day materials to create something new. I thought it was really cool how the artist was able to take wrappers and turn it into a 3-D mini sculpture.
I am not extremely interested in anything that was in the exhibit to pursue myself. But, the general idea of taking a typical painting or drawing and putting in a different technique to make it pop is something I would be interested in doing. I also think it would be interesting to take unconventional items and use it to make interesting pieces.
I am inspired by this piece because I thought it was cool how small it was because it is so well done, but I think it would be more fun to make bigger pieces. I also liked how the color from the wrappers are really bright and makes the structure pop. Lastly, I liked how the artist used unconventional material to create something new.
I also really like this piece because I like the bright colors and I want to incorporate pops of color that will grab someone's attention when looking at a piece. I want to play with color in a new and different way.
Natalie's PEM post
Based on my exibition I would like to explore a more retro, colorful and unordinary approach to my artistic skills. In creating my new work, I will look to mimic what artists do, to complete art like this, and be looking for inspiration in what is around me. I will try to stray from being more realistic, by looking to complete more expressive work. Themes in this exhibition included expression, abstraction, but also, a very interesting place for cultures, shown through a series of sculptures.
I am inspired by these pieces because:
1. The top one demonstrates, color and expression, and makes you think about it.
2. The top one leads to interpretation, and reason.
3. The sculptures show a side of culture, and importance to a community or place, with lots of symbolism.
Natural art
I like this image for several reasons, first being the natural art, it was formed by itself, there were work done on it. I like the idea of making us realize that anything can be art, there is beauty in almost everything we just have to discover and acknowledge it. In this image of the rusty mental, I can make a story that fit it and the beauty is that anyone who glance at this can make their own story using their creative mind and that is also an art. Art is just not about drawing or painting with colors, art is recognizing the odd or hidden beauty, it is about using our way of thinking and understanding everything that goes around us.

Based on the PEM exhibitions, what new materials and techniques will you like to explore?
I liked all of the Chinese art and pottery. Maybe i will try to do something similar to that.
What steps will you take in creating a series of new work? What artists or themes will you explore. Please site themes and artists for the exhibit.
I would probably do more research on the Chinese art and the process of how it is created. I do not know who the artists were.

I would like to do more water colors like the Japanese water colors.
I will follow the procedure and use my creativity to make my work original and cool. I would like to do more water colors and I would like to try more physical art like the stick art below.
Kylie Burkus PEM reflection
Based on my exhibition I would like to explore realistic perspective and using new materials. The picture on a grain of sand, really showed how art can be on any material not matter how small. I can explore this by using different materials instead of paper for my artwork. I also like the photographs with different size objects all the same scale in the picture but not in real life. I would like to explore not typical relations with objects and sizes. I can do this in my artwork by placing two unlike things and make them work fluently in a picture. I am inspired by these because they are different, modern and are mixed media.

1) The water color was quiet impressive. I would like to do more water color in class and try to become better in it.
2) I want to work on my depth of my pieces. to make the pictures look more realistic i need to make it look more 3D and it would improve my work. Barber-Surgeon Tending a Peasant's Foot

1) Based on the PEM exhibition, what new materials and techniques would you like to explore?
After looking at the PEM exhibition some of the new materials that I would like to explore are nature in art, watercolor, and different parts of shading. This museum has not only inspired me to continue to develop different styles of artwork but also incorporate art into my daily lifestyle as everything around me can always be interpreted as some type of artwork.
2) What steps will you take in creating a series of new work? What artist or themes will you like to explore? Please site themes and artist for the exhibitions?
The PEM exhibition has led me and my mind to cherish new types of artwork. Some of the steps I will take to fallow up on these goals include doing more artwork outside of just art class, and also visiting the blog every night to be inspired by great art around me. A couple themes and artists whom I was extremely impressed with were Bryant Austin, Vaughn Bell, an d Christopher Boffoli with their work in the exhibition Nature in art. As the year continues I will try and emulate them in my everyday work.
3) Please Post 2 Pictures and gives 3 Reasons why I am inspired by this work.
The contrast between black and white.
The detail on the whales mouth with the dots.
The background puts the picture all together.
The way the black background make the artwork pop out.
The detail in the castle towers.
The way all the white pops out.
