In 4 groups of 3, students will brainstorm a theme that will guide them in creating their "quilted rectangle tiles". Students will hand stitch their final fabric tiles.These "rectangle tiles" will be assembled by the Council of aging as a final piece.
Please browse through a variety of books from the Weston public library, consider the following with your groups:
1. Group theme
2. Color pallette
3. Design- abstract, semi-abstract, symbolic, etc.
Day 1
Earth group- Maria, Catherine, Anne, Andrew
Colors- green, grey, red
Water- Sophia, Natalie, Caroline, Hart or Hom
Blue, purple, grey green, chiffon
Fire/fall- Mark, Stephen, Hillary, Hart or Hom
Red, orange, brown, yellow, purple/greens, grey

Day 2
Drafts
1 abstract, or semi-abstract
1 more realistic
Materials list
Old, shirt, blouses, etc
Textile and fibers bin in tupper ware
Old buttons, laces, yarn, etc
Curved kneedle, kneedles
Embroidery thread
Fiber scissors
Pillow stuffing
Zippers
Fabric paint pens
Fabric glue
Thimbles
Metal mesh
Day 3
Choose design and play with the complete composition
Fabric shopping for your chosen design
Photocopy each students design, number each shape before photocopied
Day 4
Fabric tile 16 X 24inches
Border with tape 12 X 18 inches
Cut up fabric with the photocopy shapes
Look for embellishments: buttons, pillow stuffing, lace, etc.
Sew it up
