I thought this video was super interesting how her style of art changed so dramatically throughout her life. I really also liked her message about imperfections in art and how to adjust and grow from them.

I just stumbled upon this demo of Procreate brushes being used to emulate 1950's cartoon backgrounds. I don't know anything about these brushes but apparently they are digital and can get very expressive results:

Hi Ms. Hom,
As I was researching through ted talks to see if any would relate to the surrealist project I was working on, I cam across a playlist of videos called, "Art Made of Unusual Stuff". Watching the videos from this playlist I was inspired by how people used things such as chocolate to create amazing unique art.
Also, during classes when I am bored I like to draw on my hands with a sharpie or black pen and I came across this video on youtube of a guy that is teaching others how to draw on his hand. But I found it interesting how he doesn't really put much time into what he was drawing and he kept the pen/sharpie moving.

I picked this video because I really was intrigued by the abstract painting because it reminds me of the surrealism my next project. Making things not how they would be a normal setting. Like the colors in the video electric blue hair instead of a common color for a hair.

I chose a video of underwater time lapse because when I decided to do a ceiling tile of my own perception of underwater, I wanted inspiration. This video shows the time lapse of an underwater scene that I took into great account when making my own and was inspired by this.

This first art share video is of a pop out painter. She paints living people so that they blend in with the painting. I think it's really cool and shows that you can make anything your canvas if you really put your mind to it.
I usually don't like abstract paintings as much as realistic ones, but this speed paint video changed my mind. The abstract painting came out beautiful and really made me want to look at it.

Watercolor Mistakes
Since art 2 is working with watercolor, I thought that this video points out mistakes that we should avoid.

This shows how encaustic pigments are made. It's important to understand your medium and this provides insight upon the history of it.
This is a link to a video on photo transfers to encaustic. This is a good way to incorporate collages and other mixed media pieces into encaustica.
These are all a great example of mixed media art that involves magazine collaging. What I love about this mixed media is that is can be so different depending on the use of different sizes and shapes of magazine pieces and it really defines the piece. Each of these pieces utilize a similar theme but all have such different feels to them, I think that using this media along with a paint medium could really add character to a piece and this character can easily be controlled by the tones, sizes and shapes of the magazine pieces.

Interesting use of modeling clay and a gerbil cage... I've been looking into different ways of carving out roots for my surrealism project, and while this would not be the ideal way to do it, this could be an interesting side project if you wanted to play around with clay.

Gesture drawing to improvised music

As I mentioned, this band performs improvisations; nothing is planned out beforehand. They are constantly listening and reacting to what each other is doing. One of their main goals is to "paint" with sound, using as broad a sonic palette as possible. Their spontaneously created music pieces tend to go to many different places: soft sensitive/loud intense, slow moody/fast kinetic, serene harmonious/bombastic and dissonant, etc. The group draws from a very large sonic palette and toolset that they have acquired over the years as students, teachers and performers of music.

New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park Art Exhibit
Exhibit: August 1 - September 30, 2017
Art Due: Tuesday June 20, 2017 (postmarked by the end of the day)
Theme: "Strength in Diversity in Your Town"
New Bedford's diversity is legacy of 'Whaling History' and a belief in 'Progressive Values'. The question is how will that diversity alter the future of the city from this point on? Will New Bedford's diversity strengthen our future or divide the city?
Note: Your art just needs to reflect this theme is some way, literally or in broad brushstrokes. Perhaps you reference to the town that you live in.
