This is cool because this video shows that art can be made out of many things including sand. Another cool thing about this sand sculpture is that the art is not permanent which makes it more unique. This art is important because the sculptures are created close to here, and this particular sculpture says Boston Strong, relaying a message of hope to the Boston Marathon bombing victims.

Possible Senior project idea

Maybe for the senior project, each senior could make a butterfly out of paper. Then, all of the butterflies could be mounted in a formation on a piece of canvas. This way everyone would have the ability to contribute, and the ending products would be pretty. This can be displayed in the science wing near the balcony. This can be done at any time, but art club and art classes may need to help mounting the butterflies on the canvas.

I was thinking of combining locks and art together on a fence. Each person would have one lock and be able to design it or attached a piece of paper that they "lock" in. Then we could strategically place each lock on a fence in a certain design.

Senior Mural Idea

For the senior project, there could be a cloud mural on a canvas and hot air balloons hanging over it. The seniors could also sign the clouds.

Senior Idea

I think it would be cool if we painted the stairs with the galaxy and then we all signed our names and then covered it with like glass so it wouldn't ever rub off with all the people stepping on them everyday. I think that we should do this on the stairwell in the science wing

I think it would look cool if we made a garden with a lot of different plants and flowers and colors. I don't like how the colors in the picture are dull and the background is plain white but it it could be cool with a solid color background that way it wouldn't take away from the garden.

Senior Mural Proposal

Senior Mural Proposal: The seniors can each sign a fish. These fish could be cut out from colored construction paper or they could be painted with designs and this sculpture can represent the senior class as a group. The school of fish can be hung from the ceiling of any hallway using white string. The fish could be aligned in a swooping movement through the hallway.

We will be lightly jogging to Land Sake Farm
drawing, sketching and taking photos of fruits, veggies, chickens, landscape.

Consider these sketches and photos to inspire you to create larger landscape painting. Potential to be displayed at Land Sake farm.  

Consider buying veggies to create works of art like Saxton Freymann and then drawing or painting them.  Potential to be displayed at Land Sake farm.  

Bring a backpack, water bottle and snacks
Please bring money to buy pumpkins and veggies for pumpking linocuts design and watercolor veggie studies. ($20)

We could start with a painted mural of figures releasing a box of birds to fly away -- and then kind of fading out of the wall/ceiling along the path of painted birds, paper cranes hanging from the ceiling could jump out of the wall like they're actually flying away. Each senior could get a piece of origami paper to do whatever they want with -- write their favorite memory, future aspirations, funny quote, just a name or doodle, whatever -- and then we can make the flock of paper cranes out of these to represent our grade kind of releasing into the world. 3D aspect of bringing the cranes out from the wall and over people's heads in the hall could be interesting.

The swings on the Lawn on D are a great new art edition to the Boston area. I think this was such a good idea to bring the community together with a space that all ages can use and enjoy. The Boston Globe article provided a lot of background about the artists and the hopes and goals. I hopefully will be able to visit the park soon!

Architecture, Charles Sheeler

Charles Sheeler

A major figure in the precisionist movement, Charles Sheeler was born in 1883 in Philadelphia. He studied art from 1900 to 1906, first at the Pennsylvania School of Industrial Art, then under William Merritt Chase at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

In 1912, Sheeler had also ventured into commercial photography, focusing on architectural subjects and eventually becoming acquainted with New York avant-garde artists and collectors. His pioneering photographs, using sharp-focus effects, were also instrumental in transforming his paintings into detailed and smooth-surfaced images that reject his earlier loosely brushed style.

After Sheeler moved to New York in 1919, he dedicated himself to clarity and order, imposing these ideas on a subject that was rapidly becoming an American icon: the skyscraper. Like the Pennsylvania barn, a theme he had explored in 1917 and 1918, the skyscraper was an architectural subject through which the artist could capture the streamlined grandeur of New York. The geometry of the buildings lent itself ideally to the creation of abstract designs on canvas.
